At 5am in the morning the alarm rang. Feeling lethargic I somehow managed to get out of bed. I quickly dressed up and made my way to the bus terminal. I have been waiting for this day for a long time and I could not afford wasting any time. Today is the day I was going to Johor with Ben and some friends. It was raining heavily but it was not going to ruin my day. We were fortunate to catch the first bus and get ourselves some seats. I tried to catch up on some sleep on the bus. By the time I woke up, the bus was swarmed with people. We soon arrived at the woodlands checkpoint and cleared the Malaysian customs. Our stomachs were grumbling and we had to find the replacement lodge and kitchen cafe soon. We were slightly disoriented after the bus ride. It was hard getting around by foot especially in the rain. After navigating around the place for almost half an hour we finally reached there.
We quickly took shelter in the replacement lodge and kitchen cafe and ordered breakfast. We were salivating just looking at the menu, I ordered up the eggs benedict. The eggs were prepared perfectly, the yolk spilled out as I sliced the egg into half, coating my bread and portobello mushroom in golden yellow. I ate the eggs benedict in full relish. Finishing the benedict, my breakfast feels incomplete without a desert. We shared a plate of churros which came with a chocolate dip. It had a light and crunchy exterior with a soft inside. There was a table soccer console right at the entrance of the cafe which Ben and his friends were completely glued to. After countless rounds of table soccer we reluctantly left the cafe.
We headed towards City square mall where most of the shopping was at. Although, we were suppose to be looking at clothes, the food was more attention grabbing, pure gluttony. We identified some of the pastry stores and bakeries that we planned to visit before heading back to Singapore. After shopping for clothes, it was time for lunch. We returned to the same vicinity where we had our breakfast in search of a good cafe to chill out and have lunch. We previously saw some good reviews on the cafe called the Roost and decided on having it. We climbed up a steep flight of stairs which brought us to a relaxing area that gave us the luxury of enjoying the afternoon sun. I had the salmon with potatoes and Ben had the chicken sausage with potatoes. The food and drinks were pretty decent.
After lunch it was time to have good cup of coffee and Bev c was just the place for it. What was really interesting was their coffee cubes with milk. They had expresso shots frozen up into ice cubes and were placed in a cup. In a separate cup we had a milk, adding it to the coffee to match our taste. We had some tarts to compliment it. The white chocolate truffle tart was pleasant but the mint tart was delicious. Next, my favorite time of the day, hydrogen ice cream. I had the butterscotch hydrogen ice cream at the ice-cream project but it was a slight disappointment.
We later had a ice passion fruit tea at Chaiwalla & Co. container cafe. To end off the trip we had a Japanese meal at City square mall and their volcano roll was awesome. After dinner, we bought some pastries before finally heading back. I really enjoyed my day and hope to be back there again.
Also, I have included the addresses for the cafes which I visited. Hope you will enjoy visiting these cafes as much as I did.
Have a lovely week!

These photos are incredible (and make me feel very hungry!) - I'm impressed that they were taken with your phone! I love the way you edit them. Also admiring the mix of traditional vs. modern cafés/cuisines - the look of The Replacement Lodge & Kitchen is gorgeous, what with the marble and the lights and the general open, bright feel of it.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait until I can simply pack my bags and travel. I want to see so much of the world, yet I'm torn between whether to take photos that I can hold onto forever or simply enjoy the experience. If I had a clone of myself I'd definitely use her as my photographer, although since I don't have a clone, I'm learning to snap a few first (usually in burst mode so I don't have to worry about it being perfect) and then put away the camera so I can soak it all up.

Hello, the first cafe u went, the Replacement looks real good! I'm planning to go JB soon and was wondering if the cafe was near city square mall and was it easy to find? Assuming the weather was sunnier. It will be my first time there so I'm trying to get as much info as possible so I won't be lost.. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Yining, the replacement cafe is one not to miss, and yes it is in the same vicinity as city square mall. Locating the cafe was not a real challenge but I did ask for directions along the way. There are many other cafes in the area and if you see the Indian temple, you are definitely on the right track. Have a great trip.
