It has been a long 8 hours flight to Narita Japan and thoughts of Japan food has long filled my mind before the trip. My heart was pumped with excitement when I heard the announcement over the plane: " cabin crew prepare for touch down". I have always loved Japan and never failed to make me squeal with excitement. Their delicacies, shopping and amusement park are always so enticing. After collecting our baggage, we shared a bite at the Narita's airport express bar and it was absolutely mind blowing. The broth was lightly salted and delish. After warming up our stomachs, we took a bus back to the hotel, but who could resist not having a bento for the journey. We had 2 variations of the eel rice, one plain and the other with Japanese veg. I liked both but preferred the eel rice with veg. As I ate, I enjoyed the fast transforming scenery through the bus window. There were wild flowers that sprouted randomly and a huge Ferris wheel that could be spotted from afar.
Finally reaching the hotel, there was no time to waste, we headed straight for the Rainforest cafe after downloading our luggage in the room. The Rainforest cafe has been one of my favorite cafes since my childhood days when they used to have one in Singapore. I was only left with tiny memory fragments that remembered the decor and taste of the food. Walking down a fleet of stairs which led to the entrance of the Rainforest cafe, some of my memories were starting to flowing back. It was such a nostalgic moment when the merchandise corner greeted me. I proceeded to the dining area where familiar sights of huge and life like animals stood camouflaged in the well forested cafe. We had a plate of seafood fried rice, criss cut fries and grilled pork, scallop and prawns. The portions were ginormous and I strongly recommend trying the grilled pork and criss cut fries, if you decide to make a detour there. The criss cut fries had a nice crisp with a soft fluffy center. As for the pork it was tender, juicy and had a nice charred flavor to it. Dining in the Rainforest amongst the many jungle animals was pleasing and enjoyable .
After dinner, we came across the mos cafe which had most of its shelf wiped clean. There were only a few pieces of pastries left and I had to seize the opportunity to get one before it was polished. I chose an strawberry filled Danish. I took a bite and felt like I ascended to heaven. The fluffy croissant like interior and sweet strawberry filling was amazing. This probably explains the magical disappearance of the pastries.
It truly was a fruitful day and I got to re-live some of childhood memories.
These photos are gorgeous, Ting! Recently I've noticed quite a few bloggers jetting off to Tokyo and I couldn't be more jealous...every time I see another Japanese restaurant, kawaii shop or cute little alley through blog posts, it only fuels the wanderlust! It sounds like you had an incredible time and I hope to one day be able to see this vibrant city for myself and keep it close to my heart.
